Local Artist, Chris Rutterford, is one of the UK’s top mural artists. In the last decade he has produced a series of high profile quality murals generally based around Scottish subject matter, including Tam O’ Shanter, Hogmanay, and the Battle of Bannockburn.

His most recent project is The Colinton Tunnel in Edinburgh, which he transformed with a 140m mural illustrating a Robert Louis Stevenson Poem.

The artist says of his work in Mackays.
“I loved painting this mural for new venue that’s just opened. Very much inspired by the Devils ceilidh in Tam O’ Shanter, a mixture of booze, magic, and wild crazy dancing!

The heart of my ceilidh scene is an Orcadian Strip the Willow. I think the best dance and the right shape to help bring a little order to the chaos.

I tried to make every corner full of adventure and a feast for the eyes!”
